LONDON (AP) -- When there's gold to be had, don't ever doubt the Chinese.
When it comes to silver and bronze, it can get tricky. It did at men's gymnastics on Monday.
The Chinese won their second straight Olympic title and third in four games, making anyone who wrote them off after a dismal performance in qualifying look silly. Their score of 275.997 points was more than four points better than Japan, which needed help from a DVR to finish second.
Britain was initially announced as the silver medalist, setting off raucous celebrations at the O2 Arena. The British don't have a proud history in gymnastics - they barely have any history - and this was their first men's team medal in a century. But Japan questioned the score of three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura on pommel horse, the team's very last routine.
While judges huddled around a video screen, Uchimura and his teammates sat stone-faced while the British partied. About five minutes later, Uchimura's score was revised and Japan was awarded the silver while Britain was bumped down to bronze.
It was of little consolation to the Japanese, who were bested by the Chinese yet again.
Just like everybody else.
China also won the last five world titles, and now has gone eight years without losing at a major competition.
The Americans, hoping for their first Olympic title since 1984 after finishing No. 1 in qualifying, lost all hopes for any medal with a dismal showing on pommel horse, their second event. They rallied to finish fifth.

ROME ? Paolo Sorrentino, who won two Cannes jury prizes in the last five years and whose last film, This Must Be the Place, was his first project set outside Italy, will return to Rome for his next project, which he says will feature Angelina Jolie in a small role.
Sorrentino is the 42-year-old Neapolitan director behind Il Divo, the film that told the story of Italy?s polarizing political icon Giulio Andreotti, which won the Cannes jury prize in 2008. He followed with This Must Be the Place, which starred Sean Penn as an ageing rocker out to avenge the man who revealed that his father had been a Nazi and won Cannes? Ecumenical Jury prize in 2011.
Two earlier Sorrentino films, Amico di Famiglia (Family Friend) from 2006 and Le Conseguenze dell?amore (The Consequences of Love) from 2004 also screened in competition in Cannes.
Sorrentinto said his next film, La grande bellezza (The Great Beauty), will be set in Rome. The film, which he said will have a cameo role for Jolie, will star Toni Servillo, who will play a La Dolce Vita-style reporter. It is tentatively scheduled for release in 2013, though it is not clear whether it will be finished in time to become Sorrentino's fifth consecutive film to screen in competition in Cannes. ?
The film will be Servillo?s third collaboration with Sorrentino: he played a small role in Conseguenze dell?amore and played the central role of Andreotti in Il Divo.

The average U.S. household has seen both their net worth and their average income steadily decline over the last seven years. Unemployment in the United States still remains at uncomfortably high levels, and the poverty rate is about to reach highs that haven?t been seen since the 1960?s. But as average citizens are struggling to provide food for their families and gainful employment, there are a special few in the U.S.A. who have more cash than they know what to do with. Those special few would be the oil industry.
While most of us in the U.S. were cringing every time that ticker on the gas pump climbed higher and higher, executives at the top five oil companies were squealing with delight as their profits climbed even faster and higher than the prices at the pump.
This week, oil companies are sheepishly coming forward with their 2nd quarter earnings statements, likely praying that Americans forget about the fact that gas prices were recently at near-historic highs in areas of the country. From Climate Progress: ??
The top two corporations on the Fortune 500 Global ranking, Royal Dutch Shell and ExxonMobil, announced their 2012 second-quarter earnings today, bringing the total profits for three Big Oil companies to $44 billion for 2012 or $250,000 every day this year. Exxon profited by $16 billion this quarter, bringing its earnings for 2012 to $25 billion.
The New York Times wrote that Exxon and Shell?s earnings ?disappoint,? because energy prices unexpectedly dropped for consumers this summer. Put their profits in the appropriate context, however, and Exxon and Shell still made a combined $160,000 per minute last quarter, even though the top five oil companies benefit from $2.4 billion federal tax breaks every year. ?
That certainly warrants repeating: Exxon and Shell made a combined $160,000 every minute for the last quarter, and still helped themselves to a piece of the $2.4 billion in federal tax breaks and subsidies that flow to the top five oil companies (the grand total for all members of the industry is estimated to be between $4 and $7 billion a year.)
At their current rate of pay by the minute, they are on track to beat their record from last year when the top five oil companies combined earned a total of $261,000 every minute, for a grand total of $375 million a day.
So the ultimate question is how do they spend all that money? The simplest answer is that they spend most of it in ways that only makes them wealthier. Again from Climate Progress: ??
ExxonMobil:
Exxon spent 42 percent ? or $10.7 billion ? of its 2012 profits buying back its stock, which enriches executives and largest shareholders.
Exxon has spent $17 million lobbying for the past 18 months, making it the top spender in the oil and gas industry. It has spent more than $52 million lobbying for the first three years of the Obama presidency, 50 percent more than in the Bush administration.
Exxon is sitting on $18 billion in cash reserves.
Exxon sent federal candidates $1.3 million in campaign contributions so far this campaign cycle, sending 91 percent to Republicans.
Exxon paid just 13 percent in federal taxes last year, lower than the average American family. Right after Mitt Romney, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is the top recipient of Exxon federal contributions.
Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson received $24.7 million total compensation.
Royal Dutch Shell:
Shell has spent nearly $22 million on lobbying for the past 18 months, making it the second-biggest spender of the oil and gas industry.
Shell bought back 15 percent of its second-quarter profits, or $900 million.
In its annual report, Shell noted that the number of oil spills increased from 195 in 2010 to 207 during 2011. ?
But Exxon and Shell aren?t the only companies to report massive paydays this week; ConocoPhillips is also apparently rolling in the dough. Here?s how they spent their $2.3 billion in 2nd quarter profits: ??
ConocoPhillips has already spent $1 million lobbying Congress this year. In 2011, ConocoPhillips spent over $20 million on lobbying Congress, making it the top spender of the oil and gas industry.
Conoco has contributed nearly $400,000 to federal campaigns this year, with 90 percent of the contributions going to Republicans.
Conoco is sitting on $1 billion in cash reserves.
The company spent 35 percent more than they earned this quarter ? or $3.1 billion ? buying back its own stock, which enriches the largest shareholders and executives. ?
Obviously, there?s nothing wrong with a company being profitable. The problem is that the oil industry is profitable at the expense of our national economy and our environment. Oil spills in recent years have cost billions of dollars ? money that is coming from U.S. taxpayers ? and the ridiculous prices at the pump are taking a huge toll on American families.
And again, at the same time these companies are reaping these profits, we?re giving them an extra $7 billion tip every year. And as long as they keep pulling in these massive profits, they?ll have enough money to pay off the right politicians to keep those billions in subsidies in place. Last year, the total amount spent on lobbying topped $30 million by the oil industry in order to preserve their subsidies, which netted them a whopping 42% return on their?investment.
MANCHESTER, England (AP) ? U.S. women's soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo didn't back down Monday from her Twitter outburst against NBC analyst Brandi Chastain, saying the tweets were her way of expressing her opinion about the quality of television announcers.
Solo addressed the matter briefly on her 31st birthday during the team's tour of historic Old Trafford stadium, where the Americans will play North Korea on Tuesday. She didn't apologize or express regret, and she answered only one question about the matter, declining to address, among other things, whether a social media rant in the middle of the Olympics was the proper time and means to convey her feelings about broadcasters.
"It's not about what made me unhappy," Solo said. "It's not about one game. I have my beliefs that the best commentators and the best analysts should be analyzing come Olympics, come World Cups, and it's only my opinion. You can take it or leave it, to be honest, so it's my opinion, and I think analysts and commentators should bring energy and excitement and passion for the game, and a lot of knowledge, and I think it's important to help build the game, and I don't think Brandi has that.
"It's just my opinion, and nothing else really matters, to be honest. What matters is tomorrow's game against North Korea, playing at Old Trafford. The team's excited. It's my birthday. I don't really care to answer any other questions about Brandi."
She indeed declined to answer follow-up questions about the matter, including whether she has spoken to Chastain.
Solo railed against Chastain's commentary following the Americans' 3-0 win over Colombia on Saturday, upset over Chastain's criticisms of the team's defensive play. She tweeted that Chastain should "lay off commentating about defending" and goalkeeping "until you get more educated" and "the game has changed from a decade ago."
The outburst led to a meeting with Solo, coach Pia Sundhage and the team captains on Sunday, with the coach expressing concern about how the tweets reflected on the team's image and the need to cut out distractions and focus on the next game. The coach did not tell Solo to stop tweeting.
Solo has never been shy about expressing opinions. Her criticism of then-coach Greg Ryan got her kicked off the 2007 World Cup team. She's also been promoting a memoir that is scheduled for release two days after the Olympics.
Chastain, one of the most accomplished players in U.S. team history, has refused to be drawn into the dispute, saying Monday that she's doing her job as an "honest and objective journalist at the Olympics."
The Solo-Chastain saga has been a diversion from the buildup to a historic match. About 35,000 fans are expected Tuesday, which would be a record for a women's game at the home of Manchester United. The stadium hasn't hosted a women's match since 1989.
"You can see why they talk of all the magic inside. It's pretty amazing," midfielder Megan Rapinoe said after the players spent about 20 minutes taking photos at midfield. "Walking into the changing rooms and seeing all the trophies and legends, it's pretty cool."
The Americans won their first two games and have already clinched a berth in the next round, but they'll want a victory to sustain momentum and get a better draw in the quarterfinals.
Midfielder Shannon Boxx, who injured her right hamstring in the opening win over France, will miss her second consecutive game.

When Pittsburgh opened last season by taking a one-sided beatdown in Baltimore, Warren Sapp proclaimed that the Steelers were ?old, slow and it?s over.? Casey Hampton is, at age 35, the second-oldest Steeler. And at well over 300 pounds and coming off a torn ACL, he may be the slowest Steeler as well. But he insists that it?s not over.
?They?ve been saying that for how long?? Hampton said, via the Associated Press. ?They?ve been saying, ?You?re getting old,? and all that for years, and year in and year out we do our thing. So I don?t see it being any different this year.?
The Steelers aren?t as old as they used to be, with aging veterans James Farrior, Aaron Smith, Chris Hoke and Hines Ward retiring this offseason. Hampton said the Steelers have the right players in place to replace those longtime teammates.
?No question about it, when you?ve been around those guys 10-plus years, it?s definitely different,? Hampton said. ?But that?s part of it. You see guys come and go all the time. Those are definitely special guys, but I think those guys will fill in and do their best to make up for it.?
Hampton is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list, but he says he?ll be ready to go when he needs to go.
?I don?t have no problem with being on it as long as I need to be,? Hampton said. ?I just want to get it right and be right when I?m out there. I don?t want to be out there hobbling messing around; I wanna be out there ready to go.?
And Hampton thinks the Steelers are ready to go to the postseason again, regardless of anyone saying he?s old and slow.
My husband is on parole last year he was arrested for a crime he didn't commit. After months of dead end court hearings his bail was lowered to $50,000 and we were able to bail him out. A few days after being released he reported to parole, was assigned a new parole officer. Not once did they tell us he violated the terms of his parole, in fact they told us that he didnt. Yesterday his new parole officer sent him to a halfway house. Is that legal?
A weekend without the UFC, Strikeforce or Bellator can often mean a weekend without happiness.? Okay, not really.? But if that actually is the case with you, please, get help.? Or get a hobby or something.? Anyway, there were no offerings from the aforementioned titans of mixed martial arts; however, last night the Invicta Fighting Championships had its second installment, and in terms of high-level MMA action, it pretty much rocked.? Therein lies where this morning's news is coming from.
Unless you were one of the lucky few to make the trek out to Kansas City to see the event in person, you were forced to watch Invicta FC via the free stream broadcast over the organization's website.? You were also forced to deal with a stream that was virtually non-existent for the first half of the fourteen-bout card, which, according to the event promoter Shannon Knapp, was attributed to crashed servers.? But hey, it was free, and when the feed was strong, we got to see some exciting stuff, like Strikeforce veterans Amanda Nunes and Liz Carmouche kick butt and take names.? Reviews of the event can be found here, here and here.? Personally, I rated it four out of five mouthpieces.
?
Olympic Freestyle wrestling Silver Medalist Sara McMann came away with another win in Invicta FC's thrilling main event, bringing her unblemished record up to 6-0 with a unanimous decision win over the ultra-tough Shayna Baszler.? The bout was a close one and hotly contested right up to the final bell; in the waning seconds, Baszler rocked McMann with strikes, and McMann was moments away from doing "the Worm".? But the bell rang and it went to the judges, and that was all she wrote.? The victory puts McMann in line for a shot at the Invicta FC bantamweight title, which is vacant and waiting for someone worthy to claim it.?
?
With over 200,000 purported Internet viewers, the first Invicta FC event was considered a success, and last night's numbers have to at least be in that ballpark.? So where does that put the current state of female MMA?? Probably in a very good place, especially with Strikeforce champ Ronda Rousey's step up in exposure and Invicta FC already planning a third event.? Say what you will about women fighting, but there's a market for it ? and right now, that market is strong.

Yesterday was UFC president Dana White's birthday. ?I hope that in honor of the occasion you all cornered your pets and screamed at them "Do you want to be a [expletive] fighter?"? I know I did.

In my 20 or so years in banking, I have seen consumers impacted by horrible, unfair, life-altering events, such as job or home loss or the inability to get health insurance coverage because (wait for it) a consumer could get really sick. Other examples include vicious credit collectors/agencies/law firms, mortgage and HELOC fraud, predatory teaser and adjustable interest rates, automobile title lenders and payday lenders from whom consumers cannot escape, roofing and aluminum siding salesmen pushing loans on the elderly, and on and on. Where I have seen institutions do a credible job of walking the line between lending money and paying for channel delivery services and new customers while allowing the dealer to recover some costs for facilitating the loan has been in indirect automobile finance.
Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is supposed to protect consumers from the financial services industry in ways that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was unable to do. And where do they plan to focus? On ?discriminatory car loans,? says a recent American Banker article ? loans that are purportedly a really big problem. I would argue that this ?problem? is one that most consumers/taxpayers who ?fund the CFPB couldn?t care less about ? a ?problem? that some states, the FTC, and yes, even financial institutions, have worked to purge from the industry. CFPB, if you are going to neglect to regulate or wreak enforcement havoc on the National Association of Securities Dealers and the Securities and Exchange Commission for their failure to protect consumers? 401(k) investments ? particularly since the government forces those funds into the stock market, where many consumers recently lost up to 40% of their retirement savings ? it is painful to see time, effort, and, yes, taxpayer money being wasted on investigating banks (banks that do not see the customer) for discrimination and for adding a minimal servicing fee to car loan interest rates.
I have yet to see the government force any consumer to invest their funds in a car or a loan. Most consumers who go to an auto dealership, find a car they like, and negotiate the purchase are adult consumers more than capable of making adult decisions. The reasons behind financing an auto are obvious. Consumers can get their own loan from any number of sources, or the dealer can help them arrange financing. That many consumers choose dealer-arranged financing is not surprising. Dealer-arranged financing is CONVENIENT.
Busy consumers choose to pay for convenience every day. In this case, they pay to avoid taking time during business hours to go to one or more lender(s) to apply, sign papers, get their check, etc. Balanced against this real waste of time is the half hour it generally takes for the person to get the car when the dealership facilitates the loan. And guess what, CFPB? Consumers are sometimes willingly pay an additional US$150 to US$200 fee to a dealer that supplies ?runners? who head to the state registry with insurance, sales tax, and registration paperwork. So why would they balk at 50 to 300 basis points over the life of the loan? After all, most mortgage brokers take 50 basis points on a mortgage loan and get that paid up front.
The dealer works for the money. For contacting several lenders; getting the loan approved; reviewing bank-generated compliance documents, including contracts, with the consumer; collecting signature(s); and delivering loan paperwork to the lender, a dealer receives a percentage of the interest rate (along with a promise of payment for the car, after which it often waits a month or two for funding). Someone told me once that for the consumer, the difference between an auto dealer and an aluminum siding salesman is freedom of choice. Consumers go to auto dealers, second-mortgage salesman come to consumers? homes. Maybe, CFPB, you might embrace this bit of practicality when choosing your battles.
Debt consolidation is the process where multiple loans are replaced with only one loan that has a lower monthly payment scheme but a longer repayment period. There are basically two types of debt consolidation; secured and unsecured. In secured debt consolidation, some asset is placed as collateral for the debt consolidation loan. If the borrower fails to repay the loan, then he or she stands to lose the collateral.
In unsecured debt consolidation, no asset is used as collateral. So there is no fear of the lender having any direct charge on the borrower?s home in the event of non-payment of the consolidation loan. Here, if repayments are not made, the borrower has the privilege of re-negotiating the repayment with the lender. There is no fear of the collateral being lost through non-repayment of the unsecured debt consolidation loan. However, the interest rates of these consolidation loans are usually on the higher side.
One of the advantages of an unsecured debt consolidation loan is that since there is no property valuation involved in sanctioning the loan, these loans are approved faster. This saving in time also saves in any debts that may keep on adding through its interest. However, to get an unsecured debt consolidation loan, it is important that the borrower be clean on the credit front as the credit history helps the lender determine the credibility of the borrower. This is because the loan providers may fear sanctioning loans to borrowers with a bad credit history, and with no collateral pledged.
However, this does not mean that a person with bad credit will be rejected an unsecured debt consolidation loan. Nowadays, there are many loan providers who are willing to take a risk with lending money to people with bad credit. This is because they now believe that bad credit is not an absolute indicator of credibility.
One of the disadvantages of an unsecured debt consolidation loan is that the borrower cannot draw as large an amount as the secured debt consolidation loans. This is so as to cover the risk of giving a loan without any collateral. However, if the lender has enough faith in the borrower, then there is a chance of him loaning him a greater amount in the unsecured debt consolidation loan.
The specialty of an unsecured debt consolidation loan or any debt consolidation loan is that the loan provider actually designates experts who work along with them to eliminate debts. Here the borrowers only have the task of performing the debt settlement process. They have to provide information of the various debts they want settled; this has to include all big and small debts. The reason all the small debts have to be included is that the borrowed amount does not increase much with its inclusion, and these small debts add up to a big amount with its interest.
Once the information of the debts is provided to the loan provider, then their trained representatives will handle the several creditors of the borrower. This is a relief to the borrower, after all that haggling with the creditors. Good representatives can in fact bring down the repayable amount and thus save on the unsecured debt consolidation loan.
If you would like more thorough information on tips of getting an unsecured debt consolidation loan feel free to visit our online debt consolidation blog.
Chongqing Iron and Steel Company is said to have defaulted on some of its debt in the past year, totalling to some RMB3.6 billion, once again highlighting the difficulties steelmakers are facing amid slowing demand and over-capacity.
The company is said to have defaulted on loans and financing leases from HSBC,?China?Development Bank and CCB Financial Leasing Corp, totalling to RMB3.6 billion according to?21st Century Business Herald.? Of the RMB3.6 billion of loans, RMB887 million of which was a syndicated loan led by HSBC.? Curiously enough, the company has breached the debt covenant already, thus the company has technically defaulted on this loan.? Breaches in debt covenants have happened too with a long-term loan of RMB1.323 billion from the?China?Development Bank.? The report has not specified exactly which parts of the covenants in these two cases have been violated.? The company is said to be negotiating with banks regarding these obligations.
A financing lease contract with CCB Financial Leasing had also been breached in 2010 as the company?s debt/asset ratio reached 74.65% by the end of 2010.? The contract stated that debt/asset ratio should not be above 70%, thus the company has technically defaulted on this RMB1.4 billion obligation.? CCB subsequently relaxed the contract terms so as to avoid the termination of the leasing.
The debt situation, of course, did not improve from there as the?economy?slowed more noticeably after the company has breached the contracts. Debt/asset ratio has risen further to 84.32% by the end of 2011 according to the report.
This is quite remarkable, especially if one considers that the?Chinese economy?only started to slow more significantly last year, while this particular steelmaker was already having difficulties in not breaching the debt covenants.? Individual company?s operation aside, we know that the steel industry has enormous over-capacity, and the matter is likely to be made worse as the?economy?slows.
The fin whale, under more threat in the Mediterranean than thoughtPublic release date: 26-Jul-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]
Contact: SINC Team info@agenciasinc.es FECYT - Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology
Until now it was thought that fin whales in the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea made up part of the distribution of this species of whale in the Mediterranean. However, an international team of scientists led by a Spaniard has revealed that their population has been overestimated by including specimens from the Atlantic that visit at certain times the western Mediterranean, where the noise generated by human activity affects their survival.
In 1991 the fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) population in the Mediterranean Sea was estimated at 3500 specimens. A new study, published in Marine Mammal Science, now shows that this record included specimens from the Atlantic, and suggests that the distribution and size of the current population of this whale, which is threatened with extinction, should be reconsidered.
"The Mediterranean population has easily been overestimated, as the census included the whole of the southeast Mediterranean, incorporating Atlantic fin whales within the Mediterranean census", reported to SINC Manuel Castellote, the lead author of the study and researcher in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOOA), Seattle (USA).
The research team analysed 29,822 hours of recordings of the songs emitted by these marine mammals which can reach a length of 27 metres, and are the second biggest cetaceans in the world in order to identify the distribution limits of the Mediterranean fin whale and those of the north Atlantic fin whale in the Straits of Gibraltar, where the two populations overlap.
The results reveal that the presence of fin whales in the areas of the Straits of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea southwest of the Mediterranean is exclusively limited to Atlantic fin whales that visit the Mediterranean Sea, above all in autumn and spring.
As a consequence, "the population of Mediterranean fin whales presents a much more limited distribution than currently described, excluding a significant region of the western Mediterranean", confirms Castellote, who highlights the fact that this region had previously been identified as a feeding area.
The importance of the study is the critical state situation of the whale in these waters where it is the only mysticete (it has a baleen instead of teeth). The species is particularly susceptible to collisions with merchant vessels and ferries, which is the main cause of fin whale mortality.
Among other threats, an "insufficient" knowledge of their basic ecological characteristics such as distribution and population size stands out. For the biologist, "from a conservation point of view, it is essential to understand the geographical distribution and population size of the Mediterranean fin whale, because if not, appropriate management methods cannot be implemented".
The danger of undersea noise
Maritime traffic and geophysical exploration including the search for hydrocarbons "drastically" reduces the song effectiveness linked to reproduction and which propagates hundreds of kilometres beneath the Sea of the whales, which are also the group of marine mammals with the greatest acoustic sensitivity at low frequencies. "The noise generated through human activity in the oceans leads to possible chronic effects on the health of this species", Castellote states.
To control these threats the same researchers identified in another report the possible impact of noise generated by human activity on the acoustic behaviour and geographical movement of the fin whales in various regions of the Mediterranean Sea and in the northeast Atlantic.
After analysing 20,547 hours of recordings of the sounds emitted by the whales, the study published in Biological Conservation indicated that the whales modified the characteristics of their songs in order to try to reduce the impact of noise on their propagation.
In addition the researchers recorded a massive displacement of fin whales, triggered by the noise from geophysical prospecting at a distance of 285 km from the study area. "These recurrent displacements, together with the changes in acoustic behaviour, could increase the energy expenditure and reduce the reproductive success of whales affected by the noise", the expert indicated.
In the long-term the consequences for these mammals are clear: chronic effects which impact on their survival emerge. "Noise in the marine medium, despite being recognised as a significant pollutant, is far from being controlled and regulated within the waters of the Exclusive Economic Zone of Spain", warns Castellote.

The fin whale, under more threat in the Mediterranean than thoughtPublic release date: 26-Jul-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

Prince Jackson, Blanket Jackson and Paris Jackson after the hand and footprint ceremony honoring their late father, Michael Jackson, in Los Angeles on January 26, 2012.
By Jill Serjeant, Reuters
Updated at 5:50 p.m. PT: LOS ANGELES --?Michael Jackson's three children were given a new guardian on Wednesday in an escalating power struggle within the famous musical family involving the singer's multimillion-dollar estate and the well-being of his elderly mother.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff gave temporary guardianship of the children to their cousin Tito Jackson Jr., 34, at his request, after a chaotic week of conflicting reports over the health and whereabouts of family matriarch Katherine Jackson.
Hours after Wednesday's court hearing, Katherine Jackson gave her first TV interview since the often wild and conflicting reports surfaced, denying she had been kidnapped by her adult children and saying she was devastated that Prince Michael, 15, Paris, 14 and Blanket, 10, "have been taken away from me."
Katherine Jackson, 82, who was appointed guardian of the kids in her son Michael's will, was reported missing and unreachable by granddaughter Paris last week.
She was later said by family members to be resting under doctor's order at the Arizona home of one of her daughters.
"There are rumors going around about me that I have been kidnapped," she told ABC News in the interview.
"I am here today to let everybody to know that I am good and fine ... My children would never do anything to me like that," she added.
Katherine Jackson said the court ruling that gave temporary guardianship to her grandson Tito was "based on a bunch of lies."
"I am devastated that while I've been away, my grandchildren have been taken away from me, and I'm coming home," she added.?
The family dispute broke into the open earlier this week in an angry confrontation, seen on security video, between Paris and her aunt, singer Janet Jackson, at the clan's large compound near Los Angeles.
Janet Jackson and four of her siblings are embroiled in a dispute over the validity of the will left by their brother Michael after his sudden death in 2009. The will placed his estate in the hands of two non-family executors.
At Wednesday's court hearing, attorneys for both Tito Jackson Jr. and Katherine Jackson raised questions over whether her absence from her Los Angeles home was voluntary.
Tito Jackson Jr., the son of Michael Jackson's older brother Tito, told Beckloff that he spoke on Tuesday to Katherine Jackson but that she was talking strangely and seemed to be speaking in code.
"I never heard my grandmother talk like that," he said. "I'd ask simple questions and she wasn't sharp."
Another brother, Randy Jackson, said on Twitter Wednesday that suggestions his mother was being held against her will were "absurd."
"Enough already!! We've already lost one family member," Randy Jackson tweeted, claiming the executors of his brother's estate were using the media to "spin their lies and divide our family."
Michael Jackson's will stipulated that money earned by the estate would benefit his mother and his kids. But Randy, Janet and three other siblings say the pop star's signature was forged and that he was not in California on the date it was signed.
The executors of the estate insist the will is valid and said earlier this week they were concerned about protecting the kids from "undue influences, bullying and greed."
Since Jackson's death, the executors have approved numerous projects including a posthumous concert rehearsal film "This Is It", a Cirque du Soleil show, and releases of new and old Jackson music and videos.
Music publication Billboard estimated in 2010 that the "Thriller" singer's estate generated about $1 billion in revenue in just the first year following his death from an overdose of the surgical anesthetic propofol.
According to financial documents filed recently with a Los Angeles probate judge, the estate has earned $475 million in gross profits since Jackson's death, and much of the singer's estimated $500 million debt has been paid off.
It can be fun to travel with toddlers. The joy they feel when experiencing every day things like watching butterflies or squishing sand between their toes is contagious and can make for an unforgettable family trip.
On the other hand, staying in a hotel room with a toddler can be challenging, to say the least. The unfamiliar territory and prevalence of safety hazards can draw a dark cloud over the family vacation.
Here are a few tips that helped me focus on fun, not frustration, when staying in a hotel room with my kids when they were toddlers.
1. Always deadbolt and latch the door whenever you walk in the room. Recently while on vacation, another mom confessed to me that the day before while she was napping, her daughter opened the hotel room door and wandered the halls until she was found by hotel employees. It was only when the mother was startled awake by her in-room phone did she even know her daughter was gone. Always, always deadbolt & latch the door when you are in the room. If the door doesn?t have the top latch or you worry that your toddler may be able to unlock the deadbolt, slide a chair in front of the door. You can also purchase a doorstop alarm which will alert you when the door stop is moved or the door is opened.
2. Search the room for any hazards. Make sure blind cords can?t be reached by tying them up with painters tape, which you can also use to cover outlets and tape washcloths to sharp table edges. Open all of the drawers and take note of their contents. Put up hotel sewing kits. Search the floor and under the bed for any miscellaneous hazards. I?ve heard of parents finding safety pins, pills, and other items on hotel room floors. Check the water temperature in the bathroom and keep coffee makers, hair dryers or curling irons up high or unplugged and off. Keep the bathroom door shut, but make sure toddlers aren?t inside alone or they could lock themselves in. Bring a toilet lock and be aware of slow draining tubs.
3. Buy or bring plastic cups. Most hotels only supply glass drinking cups. The plastic cups will not only be easier for toddlers to drink from but they are also great for making bath time easier and more fun too.
4. Don?t forget the Lysol. Lysol the carpet. Toddlers love to play on the floor and if you can?t keep them on a blanket or a sheet, spray the Lysol to protect against germs.
5. Bring balloons. A small bag of balloons takes up very little space in a suitcase and toddlers love them. Clear a small area to play without any hazards and your toddler will be all smiles. We brought balloons on a trip when my children were 2 and 3 years old and the kids loved bopping the balloons back and forth (or at least trying to) all day long. It saved our sanity during those unfortunate rainy days.
6. Pack books and electronics. When your toddler is napping or falls asleep after a long day at 7 pm, you?re going to need something to do, especially if your child is one who can?t sleep with the TV on. Use this time to catch up on reading, play Angry Birds or whatever you like to do. The electronics will also be handy on rainy days. Just pull up a few toddler-friendly apps and your little one will play happily until the sun comes back out.
7. Don?t forget a nightlight. When you draw the curtains many hotel rooms are very dark. You can ease any nighttime fears by packing your little one?s favorite nightlight.
Traveling with toddlers is often such a joy but staying in a hotel room with one can sometimes be a real hassle. Hopefully, the tips above will help keep your family vacation full of joyful memories rather than frustrating ones.

T?sa (pronounced Taysa) is a work-at-home mom who enjoys blogging and freelancing while raising her family in Cleveland, Ohio. Her daughter, Kora, is 6 and her son, Logan, is 5 ? they are 14 months apart and always wired, leaving them tired.
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- When it comes to the safety of your toddler, every parent wants to be there 24/7.
Better technology enables many parents to have an extra set of eyes and ears through baby monitors.
Rene Hopkins, with Safe Kids led by GHSU, said, "They are placing them closer and closer to the crib, so they feel like they get a better visual image."
With wider screens and better cameras, these devices aren't just for hearing anymore, but placing them too close or inside of a crib can be downright dangerous.
"Anything that is placed within the child's reach, they are going to reach for it -- they are curious by nature," Hopkins said.
Since 2002, seven babies have been strangled by baby monitor cords and three toddlers had close calls. The victims were as young as 6 months to 20 months old.
"The cords on these monitors are longer than 7 inches. Anything longer than 7 inches is a strangulation hazard for a child," Hopkins said.
As Hopkins with demonstrates with a doll which represents a 16-month-old, she shows us children can easily reach out for a cord, even when it's outside of the crib.
"Remember when you put a child in a crib to sleep, it's the one time we expect them to be outside of our direct observation," she said.
This month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission launched a new campaign to warn parents about the danger through a new website, and they are also urging baby monitor manufacturers to label their cords.
"Now that the issue has been brought to light, there will be may be some design changes," Hopkins added.
Whether it's a basic $19 or a fancier cordless version that can run you upwards of of $99, the threat still remains the same with cords powering or charging the device.
"Some parents will read every single word, other parents will just assume and plug it in," Hopkins said.
Hopkins advises to keep cords at least 3 feet away to make room for a baby safe zone. Free warning labels are available for parents.
