Obama takes on Romney on college affordability

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? President Barack Obama is drawing a sharp line with Republican Mitt Romney on education, saying in Ohio that "putting a college education within reach for working families doesn't seem to be a priority" for his opponent.

Obama says in prepared remarks Tuesday that Romney's plan for college-bound students is to "shop around" and "borrow money from your parents ... but if they don't have it, you're on your own."

Obama was expected to point to the budget plan of Romney running mate Paul Ryan, saying it would cut billions from the Education Department and cost 1 million college students their Pell Grants over 10 years.

Republicans say the costs of in-state tuition at four-year colleges have increased under Obama's watch and new graduates have fewer job opportunities.
