As CBS-Time Warner dispute enters its second week, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys hope there?s a resolution soon

Unless Time Warner Cable and CBS resolve their millions and millions of differences in the next few hours, TWC?s local customers will have to miss tonight?s Dallas Cowboys-Oakland Raiders preseason contest that kicks off at 9 Dallas time. Football fans aren?t alone: For the second Friday in a row, Your First-Place Texas Rangers, battling the Astros for the Silver Boot on KTXA-Channel 21, won?t be seen by Time Warner Cable customers caught in the dust-up between the network and distributor involving retransmission fees.

Rangers spokesman John Blake says, ?We?re disappointed our fans with Time Warner Cable can?t seen our games, and we hope there?s a quick resolution.?

Rich Dalrymple, the man who speaks for the Dallas Cowboys, said the team does hope this gets resolved sooner than later. After all, the three remaining preseason games (against Arizona, Cincinnati and Houston) are also scheduled to air on KTVT-Channel 11, the team?s media partner.

?We?re aware of the situation, and we understand these things happen from time to time with TV networks and distributors,? said Dalrymple. ?It?s our hope that as many people as possible see our preseason games. Just as the NFL does with its regular games, we have contracts in place to put our preseason games over the air so they can be seen by as many people as possible.?

Except, in this case, the 450,000 customers Time Warner Cable says it serves in the Dallas area. All told, the blackout affects some 3.2 million customers in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, the three major markets where CBS owns stations.

CBS suggested yesterday that negotiations with Time Warner Cable have started again. But FCC Acting Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn said today that she is ?deeply disappointed that the parties seem to be unable to reach a retransmission agreement.?

Incidentally, the Cowboys-Raiders game is also being broadcast on the NFL Network. But preseason games on the NFL Network are blacked out in the teams? home markets, which means tonight?s game will not be shown locally on NFL Network, nor will the remaining preseason contests.

But, said Dalrymple, just because Time Warner Cable customers in Dallas won?t be able to see tonight?s game live doesn?t mean they won?t be able to see it tonight.

?Channel 39, Telemundo, will air the game tape-delayed at 10:35 [p.m.],? he said. The broadcast will be en Espa?ol.
