As CBS-Time Warner dispute enters its second week, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys hope there?s a resolution soon

Unless Time Warner Cable and CBS resolve their millions and millions of differences in the next few hours, TWC?s local customers will have to miss tonight?s Dallas Cowboys-Oakland Raiders preseason contest that kicks off at 9 Dallas time. Football fans aren?t alone: For the second Friday in a row, Your First-Place Texas Rangers, battling the Astros for the Silver Boot on KTXA-Channel 21, won?t be seen by Time Warner Cable customers caught in the dust-up between the network and distributor involving retransmission fees.

Rangers spokesman John Blake says, ?We?re disappointed our fans with Time Warner Cable can?t seen our games, and we hope there?s a quick resolution.?

Rich Dalrymple, the man who speaks for the Dallas Cowboys, said the team does hope this gets resolved sooner than later. After all, the three remaining preseason games (against Arizona, Cincinnati and Houston) are also scheduled to air on KTVT-Channel 11, the team?s media partner.

?We?re aware of the situation, and we understand these things happen from time to time with TV networks and distributors,? said Dalrymple. ?It?s our hope that as many people as possible see our preseason games. Just as the NFL does with its regular games, we have contracts in place to put our preseason games over the air so they can be seen by as many people as possible.?

Except, in this case, the 450,000 customers Time Warner Cable says it serves in the Dallas area. All told, the blackout affects some 3.2 million customers in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, the three major markets where CBS owns stations.

CBS suggested yesterday that negotiations with Time Warner Cable have started again. But FCC Acting Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn said today that she is ?deeply disappointed that the parties seem to be unable to reach a retransmission agreement.?

Incidentally, the Cowboys-Raiders game is also being broadcast on the NFL Network. But preseason games on the NFL Network are blacked out in the teams? home markets, which means tonight?s game will not be shown locally on NFL Network, nor will the remaining preseason contests.

But, said Dalrymple, just because Time Warner Cable customers in Dallas won?t be able to see tonight?s game live doesn?t mean they won?t be able to see it tonight.

?Channel 39, Telemundo, will air the game tape-delayed at 10:35 [p.m.],? he said. The broadcast will be en Espa?ol.

8 Amazing Uses For Metamaterials, the Tech Behind Invisibility Cloaks

Metamaterials are a mind-bending class of matter. Broadly defined as manmade materials with unusual properties not found in nature, this category of materials is probably most famous for serving as the building blocks for a Harry Potter-style invisibility cloak. But so much more is possible.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.3 irrefutable release

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.3 irrefutable release

In only a few weeks? time smartphone fans will get to see the next flagship handset courtesy of Samsung at a special press event that is taking place on September 4th in Berlin, Germany. Now there is talk of what version of the Android mobile operating system the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will release with.

As always we get to hear lots of rumours about the next high end smartphone that Samsung is set to unleash onto the buying public, and not all of them turn out to be accurate while others are pretty obvious to be coming.

This is certainly the case with the news that SamMobile have put up on their Twitter account today stating the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will launch with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system on board.

It is pretty obvious that Samsung would release their new flagship device with the latest version of Android already installed, which is what happened earlier this year with the Galaxy S4. There is a lot of hope that Samsung will provide a handset that has the specs that will make the handset last a lot longer than 12 months.

This shouldn?t be an issue hopefully as last year?s model is still a worthy device despite all the new hardware that has been released or launched since then, but the updating of the Android firmware is still a frustrating experience for a lot of users.

It seemed that the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 from last year were due to get updated to Android 4.2.2, but we have since seen a carrier in Australia and then more recently Germany confirm that both handsets are skipping the software for a later version of Android, which is obviously Android 4.3.

Do you think it is obvious for the Galaxy Note 3 to come with Android 4.3?

Former Syracuse guard Michael Carter-Williams participates in NBA orientation

Former Syracuse University guard Michael Carter-Williams was one of about 50 new NBA faces filtered through the league's orientation program this week.

Carter-Williams, the 11th pick of the June draft, participated in the photo shoots (see him with buddy Nerlens Noel), the life lessons sessions and the ethics and money management classes. The new Philadelphia 76er seems to be enjoying himself:

The four-day affair is officially called the Rookie Transition Program. The NBA dismissed Shabazz Muhammad from the program Tuesday for bringing an unapproved "female guest" to his hotel room. Finding him in this photo shoot is a bit like a Where's Waldo mission, but Carter-Williams, standing close to Louisville's Peyton Siva, is easier to spot:

Speaking of Siva, the Detroit Pistons signed the 56th pick of the draft earlier this week. And Siva provided some drama during the rookie photo shoot. See for yourself:

LG piles on the software features for latest flagship, including 'Answer Me' and Guest Mode

No non-Nexus Android phone is complete without a pile of obnoxious helpful unique software features. LG's G2 is no different; it adds a bunch more customizations and apps to the company's existing suite. Plug & Pop automatically suggests apps and tasks when you plug in headphones or a USB cable, while Slide Aside lets you quickly dismiss running apps with a simple three-finger swipe. KnockON isn't exactly new, but it's definitely one of the more intriguing and simple twists on the standard Android UI: instead of hitting a power button you simply tap twice on the display to wake the G2 from its sleep. It's a nice convenience that goes hand-in-hand with Answer Me, which automatically answers calls when you put the phone to your ear, just like an old-school wired telephone. There's even QuickRemote, which can not only control home entertainment systems, but a whole range of devices, thanks to its ability to "learn" from standard IR remotes. There's also a guest mode, for when you want to hand the phone over to a friend or your child, though, Guest Mode does nothing to stop their sticky little fingers from leaving goo on your screen.
