Praxis Test ? What Is It And What It Involves

by Rodney Curtilvin on February 15, 2012

The Educational Testing Service is a privately-owned nonprofit agency that is involved with development, administration, and scoring of more than 50 million tests annually worldwide. One of the standardized tests that they administer is the Praxis series tests which measure the academic achievement and proficiency of individuals seeking entry or completing teacher preparation courses. These tests are required for teacher licensure in approximately 40 states in the USA.

There are three types of Praxis tests. First of these is the Praxis 1 also referred to as the PPST or Pre-Professional Skills Tests and which are designed to evaluate whether you have the academic skills needed to prepare for a career in education. In most colleges, Praxis I tests are sometimes used to qualify candidates for entry into a teacher preparation program.

Another cluster of tests is referred to as the Praxis 2 or Subject Assessments which evaluate how well you know the content of the subjects taught to K-12 students as well as general and specific teaching skills. Another family of tests is referred to as Praxis 3 or Teacher Performance Assessments and these include direct observation of a classroom practice by a beginning teacher. Praxis 1 and 2 include multiple choice items as well as essays. Praxis 3 may also include a review of documentation prepared by the beginning teacher as well as structured interviews.

In order to succeed in your Praxis examinations you have to find review materials, establish a study plan and commit to it. There are plenty of Praxis study guides and you can find them in your local bookstores or online. The ETS website has a number of resources to help you prepare for your tests. Praxis study guides contain content outlines, information about the kinds of questions you can find in the tests, strategies, and sample questions.

You can also find a number of Praxis 1 practice tests out there, as well as those for Praxis 2. A number of them are sold for a fee, but if you?re resourceful, you can find a number of sites that give these resources for no cost at all. The ones you can get from the ETS website are tests which have been administered already. Praxis 2 and Praxis 1 practice test books will contain not only the right answers, point-by-point explanations, as well as scoring guides. As with any examination, the better prepared you are, the higher your chances of passing the Praxis tests.

Looking for Praxis study guide? Look no further. You can also find other resources like Praxis 1 practice test on this website.
